The Challenge: Take on a new skill or hobby every month and learn or do as much as you can within thirty days. This is the story of one girl's quest to find what she loves to do, and finds herself along the way.
Alright, so Justin says you should be practicing 15 minutes a day, every day. Well, I know I have 15 minutes a day and it should totally be easy… but I’m a busy girl… and I like the snooze button.
So, today ran in the Shamrock Run 5k in downtown Portland. My girlfriends and I dressed up in tutus and knee high socks and ran on the Columbia Sportswear team. There were so many people! It way mayhem. We finished in about 45 minutes and went to get our celebratory Saint Patrick’s Day free beer. We waited in line to get into the beer tent for about 10 minutes, only to realize that all the people in the beer tent were in line to get beer! Another 1500 people stood in front of us and sweet victory. Obviously free beer tastes better than beer you pay for. Der. But after calculating how much a free beer is actually worth… x > time/hungriness… carry the 1… fuck it. Let’s go to Genie’s. Bacon infused Bloody Mary’s, eggs benedict, and Stumptown coffee wins every time. Sunday brunch > everything!
So, after a brief appointment with my real estate agent, a much needed couch nap, and a Girls marathon with Katie… I learned the A Chord. Wahoo! It looks like this:
Obviously, I didn’t play hockey. Although the thought of me attempting to ice skate, hold a stick, follow a puck around, and not spend the entire time on my ass would’ve been something to see. Alas, Katie took me to the next best thing… Great seats at a Portland Winterhawks game. It was a blast. Yelling, cheering, and the surprise of knowing all hockey players look like they just started shaving. We won 5-2, making 4 goals in the third period. Pretty awesome.
Okay, so I know I just did Random Sports and now I’m doing Snow Sports. It’s like, geesh! Get a new hobby already?! Turns out I really like to be active, who knew? Anyway, I just moved to the super east side of Portland for my new job and I’m ridiculously close to Mount Hood and I would be remiss if I didn’t take advantage. (For those of you who are tracking my moves and found that little word bomb; yes, I did move 3 times in 2012. I’m not proud of it. Get off my back.)
Anywho, let’s take a look at my handy list of all the things I want to do, that I will probably only get to about half of: Skiing, snowshoeing, tubing, sledding, and general snowball fightery.
My legs are getting that restless feeling and it is finally not a million degrees so I go for a run after work. I get about 2.5 miles in without stopping and it feels amazing. The sky is clear and pink and it’s about 80 degrees. Man, I love Portland in the summer.
Yay! Cuisette let me borrow her Nikon Coolpix sweet ass camera. I took it straight to the waterfront after work. It has a night shot mode and I tried to get some sweet pictures. Took a ton and most of them came out blurry (because of the increased aperture to let in more light and all (pretty smart sounding, eh?)) Here are the best:
